Fourteen years after the release of their highly acclaimed double album Music for Dancers and Dreamers (Stunt Records STUCD 19712), Peter Danemo and Fredrik Lundin return with a powerful new album, featuring legendary trumpet player Jan Allan. Titled Nat—the Danish word for “night”—the album was released on Kopasetic Productions in May 2010.
Danemo and Lundin first began collaborating in the early 1990s when they founded the Lundin/Danemo Quartet. The quartet released the widely praised Music for Dancers and Dreamers on Stunt Records in 1997 and remained highly active until 2001, when the members went their separate ways.
In January 2010, their new quintet made its debut at the intimate Glenn Miller Café in Stockholm.
The new quintet brings together three generations of Scandinavian jazz. Legendary trumpet player Jan Allan represents the era when Swedish jazz was at its peak in Scandinavia, having played with icons such as Lars Gullin, Börje Fredriksson, and Bernt Rosengren, among others. The younger, adventurous generation is represented by the talented pianist Jonas Östholm, while Danemo, Lundin, and Spering represent the seasoned middle generation. Five artists with remarkable integrity, coming together to form a strong and cohesive collective. This is a perfect example of how art can effortlessly transcend generations and communicate with ease.
This is Scandinavian jazz at its finest, featuring one of the pioneers of the genre, Jan Allan, who has been there from the very beginning and is truly the embodiment of Scandinavian jazz.
