Peter Danemo Quartet

Peter Danemo Quartet is a Swedish jazz group led by drummer and composer Peter Danemo. The quartet was formed in 1988 and featured, saxophonist Inge Petersson, pianist Esbjörn Svensson and danish bass player Klavs Hovman. Their debut album, Baraban, was released in 1991 on Dragon Records and was met with high praise from critics and audiences across Scandinavia.

The quartet took part in the “Pulsslag” touring project by the Swedish Jazz Federation in 1994, further cementing their place in the Scandinavian jazz landscape. That was also the last tour the quartet did.

Although their album Baraban is long out of print and not available on streaming platforms, it can occasionally be found through second-hand dealers or antiquarian bookshops.

Liner notes from the album Baraban
This music was written with this particular group of musicians in mind. I have given much consideration to the ways in which Inge, Esbjörn, and Klavs play individually, but even more so to our collective sound. I have tried to write music that is both straightforward and open in form. My aim is to give us the freedom to play without restrictions, while still taking full advantage of our different musical personalities to give the music greater depth. As a source of inspiration, I am deeply interested in the musical heritage of the Nordic countries. The music we play demands nothing more from the listener than curiosity.
