I love playing it, and so do my children. One of the pedals was broken and the whole thing was covered in dust. My daughter and I worked together to repair and clean it – a small adventure for the two of us.

Several of the compositions on this CD were brought to life on the pump organ. At times, it felt like making wine – slowly pressing out the essence, step by step. One thing I quickly discovered is that a pump organ is an ergonomic disaster. But that has its benefits: I can’t sit and pump through my ideas for too long. You have to stay sharp and make quick decisions – for the sake of your back, and to know which ideas are worth following. You don’t want to press too far in the wrong direction and end up with a slipped disc…

As you can tell, the pump organ is deeply connected to Resonance, in more ways than one. That’s why it felt only natural for it to open the CD with a brief introduction to Beardland – much of which was composed on that very instrument.
